Answer boxes, also known as featured snippets, are now a common feature in search results as people are typing full questions instead of just keywords. For example, someone might ask “Where is the nearest coffee shop?” or “What year did Hanson release ‘Mmmbop’?” (1997) instead of just typing "coffee shop" or "Hanson."
Answer boxes can appear as give users a quick, direct response right in the search results, so you don’t have to click on a link to get a quick fact or solve a debate. For a more in-depth look at how these answer boxes work and what goes into them, check out our blog post, Google Answers Your Queries.
Answer boxes appear at the top of Google's search results page as text, images, videos, lists, or tables. They can typically be seen in results from questions using: how, who, what, where, when, why and can. An example can be seen below for "how to tie a bow tie".
