Overview
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the newest version of Google Analytics. It will replace all previous versions. Most users will be automatically switched to GA4 some time in 2023, and in 2024 GA3 (Universal Analytics) will stop collecting data altogether. The transition to GA4 presents several challenges for Google Analytics users: Many familiar metrics are either disappearing or must be configured via complex setups. To make matters worse, there will be no continuity of data. GA4 will only store data beginning with your activation of it. Comparing with historical data will mean having to go back and forth between versions, trying to figure out what correlates.
At seoClarity we created the ONLY seamless transition solution available from an Enterprise SEO platform. Our solution automatically maps corresponding metrics between your GA4 setup and the familiar ones in our Site Analytics, preserving historical data, metrics, and reporting. This video covers the changes between GA3 and GA4, why you should integrate GA4 with seoClarity Site Analytics, and how to set up the integration in both GA4 and seoClarity. The integration steps are detailed below the video.
How to Set Up GA4 Integration with Site Analytics
1. Go to Settings. In the Integrations tab, click on Google Analytics Integration.
2. If you have a current Google Analytics integration, click here to remove it.
3. Click the Authenticate button.
4. Allow seoClarity to have access to your Google Analytics account.
5. You should now see this verification that your authentication was successful. Click the Next button to continue your integration setup.
6. You GA4 profiles will be highlighted in blue. Notice that GA4 profiles do not have Views. Click on your GA4 profile.
7. While seoClarity automatically does much of the mapping of GA4 metrics to your Site Analytics metrics, you will need to set up custom Events in GA4 for many metrics, including goals and conversions. After you've set those up, you can use this screen to map those events. Give each one a custom name you'll recognize (for example: "Email Lead Conversions") and then use the Event dropdown to associate it with a GA4 event you created. Click Next at the bottom of this screen when you've finished mapping your Events.
Note that we use SessionDefaultChannelGroup = Organic Search. To check in GA4 for the conversion go to the Landing Page report (on the Engagement menu) by filtering for the same (Session Default Channel Group = Organic Search).
GA4 Currency
The default currency setting in GA4 is USD. This setting can be changed manually in GA4 and will impact the numbers we receive.
