How To Account For Full Page URL Filtering In Google Analytics
Google Analytics Filter For Full Page URL
This article is based on Google Analytics and seoClarity's
Google Analytics Integration. A common filter to setup within Google Analytics is the ability to view the full page URL in the landing page dimension. This would include the host or domain name and the URI (but without the protocol). An example of this setup made available by Google can be found
here.
If this advanced filter is setup within the Google Analytics view that is authenticated within seoClarity, it can affect the platform's ability to match other data properly. This ability is impacted because the platform processes analytics data in the same manner that Google does, with the protocol and host or domain name appended by the platform when determining the full URL. This means that the domain or host name is duplicated when this filter is setup. An example of the Site Analytics table with and without the GA advanced filter enabled can be seen below:
Landing Page with the Advanced Filter - Incorrect Method for seoClarity Integration
Landing Page | Traffic |
hm.com/en_us/index.html | 134,729 |
hm.com/en_us/women.html | 44,705 |
hm.com/ | 16,687 |
hm.com/en_us/women/products/blazers-vests.html | 9,039 |
hm.com/en_us/kids.html | 9,033 |
Landing Page without the Advanced Filter - Correct Method for seoClarity IntegrationLanding Page | Traffic |
| /en_us/index.html | 134,729 |
| /en_us/women.html | 44,705 |
| / | 16,687 |
| /en_us/women/products/blazers-vests.html | 9,039 |

If this advanced filter is setup within the Google Analytics view you wish to integrate, there are two primary ways to overcome this. Doing so ensures that the analytics data can be properly attributed to it's corresponding URL, which allows for data alignment across other platform features.
A) Remove the Advanced filter from the GA view that is going to be integrated
B) Integrate a different GA view that does not have the advanced filter applied. This can be accomplished by integrating a separate existing view without the filter or coping the existing view via Settings (seen below) and removing the filter.
