Content Gaps Overview

Content Gaps allows you to compare the keywords for which you rank with competitors to discover vulnerabilities and opportunities in your content coverage.  Take this on-platform tour or view the video below for a quick overview of what you can do with Content Gaps. Also see How to Discover Your Competitive Content Gaps.

Background & Requirements for Content Gaps

Input a domain or select Top Competitors, Specified Competitors, or Universal Competitors to view corresponding data in the charts and tables. If searching with a domain the top SERP competitors appear automatically. For data beyond the 5 domain input (up to 250), custom Content Gaps extracts can be provided for an additional cost. Contact support@seoclarity.net for more information.

True Demand: True Demandâ„¢ is a proprietary seoClarity metric based on clickstream data that helps estimate true search volume. This metric is available for use in the Research Grid and now in Content Gaps and is refreshed every 6 months. An example of this can be enabled as below:

Actions menu
Add to Lists: Lists are a way to organize keywords from the Research Grid into groups for filtering. This allows for the creation and use of keyword lists across different features of the Research Grid.
Add to Tracked Keywords: This allows for keywords to be tracked on your managed keyword set.
Assign Tag & Preferred Landing Page: Select the keywords and preferred landing page URL and assign a tag to have a better view of their performance.  Associating keywords associated with preferred landing pages is akin to mapping out the URL we want to rank for a managed keyword, whereas a managed page that does not have any keyword associations made within the platform would be unmapped.
Assign Tags: This allows for tags to be assigned to the selected keywords. Therefore, you will start managing those keywords.

Content Gaps Filters

Relevance: This filter applies only to the keyword table, not the charts. Choose Standard, Medium, High, or Very High to filter keywords based on their relevance. The more competitors ranking for a keyword, the higher its relevance will be. Medium relevance is where at least 1 of the domains entered is ranking for a keyword, high relevance is where at least 2 domains are ranking for a keyword, and very high relevance is where 3 domains are ranking for a keyword
Search Volume: Select the search volume range to be viewed with options for Equals, Greater Than, Less Than and Between.
Keyword: elect the type of keyword to be viewed with options for Is, Isn't, Contains, Doesn't Contain,  Starts With, Ends With, and Regular Expression.
Search Intent: Search Intent helps segment data by the underlying intent. This is most commonly used for Brand and Non-Brand analysis. Simply specify the patterns to match and the data is segmented on the fly immediately.
URL: Select the type of URL to be viewed with options for Is, Isn't, Contains, Doesn't Contain, Starts With, Ends With, and Regular Expression.
Rank: Select the URL and ranking range to be viewed with options for Equals, Greater Than, Less Than and Between.
Ranking Competitors: Filter for your ranking competitors based on how they rank.

  1. When applying a filter to view the historical trend, the keywords matching the filter for the latest month are used in the historical trend data.
    1. For example, if the filter matched 10 keywords in the current month, the chart would show data for the same set of 10 keywords' data based on the same set of 10 keywords for each month historically in the trend chart.
