TikTok Research Overview

TikTok (Beta) Research provides trended metrics for hashtags and ad keywords from the TikTok social media platform. The default view displays the most popular hashtags by industry from the past week. These are the hashtags used by content creators on TikTok.



TikTok Research Background & Requirements

Data is collected on a weekly basis. 

TikTok Research Hashtags tab



  1. Country Selector: select the country whose metrics you want to view.
  2. Date Selector: select the week you want to view.
  3. Hashtags Tab: View the most popular TikTok hashtags by industry
  4. Keywords Tab: View the most-used terms in TikTok ads by industry
  5. Hashtags Industry: Filter results by a particular industry.
  6. Rank: The rank of popularity for each hashtag during the selected week. When filtering by an industry, this will display the ranking of the top twenty most popular hashtags for that industry. The default view displays the #1 hashtag for each industry we track.
  7. Tag: the most popular Hashtags from the selected week
  8. Industry: the industry category of each hashtag.
  9. Posts: the number of posts using each hashtag during the selected week.
  10. Views: the aggregate number of views for posts using each hashtag during the selected week. NOTE: because posts may continue to be viewed long after they were published, it is possible in a given week to have a hashtag with no posts but many views. This means while no new posts were created with the hashtag that week, older posts using it continued to get views.
  11. Trend: a graphic display of the number of posts using each hashtag over the past seven days. The day(s) showing 1.0 when hovered are when the hashtag peeked in popularity.
  12. Columns selector: choose what metric columns appear in the results table. Column not shown in default view: Featured: a check mark indicates the hashtag was featured by TikTok on their search page. 
  13. Download: Copy the currently visible rows to paste into a spreadsheet, document, or other tool.

TikTok Research Keywords tab

This view displays the most popular keywords used in TikTok ads during the selected week.


  1. Keyword Industry Selector: Filter the results by an industry group
  2. Keyword: the most popular ad keywords used in the selected week.
  3. Industry: the industry group for each keyword.
  4. Popularity: the number of ads that used each keyword during the selected week.
  5. Popularity Change: the percentage of change in Popularity over the previous week
  6. Impressions: The number of times ads using each keyword were seen by TikTok users during the selected week.
  7. Likes: The aggregate number of likes by users on ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  8. Shares: The aggregate number of times users shared ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  9. Comments: The aggregate number of comments left on ads using each keyword during the selected week.
Other column options for the Keyword view:
  1. Cost: The total estimated cost to advertisers for ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  2. CPA: The Cost Per Acquisition for ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  3. CTR: The Click-Through Rate for ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  4. CVR: The Conversion Rate for ads using each keyword during the selected week.
  5. 6s View Rate: The percentage of users who viewed the ad video for at least six seconds during the selected week.
