Bing Search Analytics Overview

Bing Search Analytics provides Bing search data into the platform in a easy to dissect manner. 


Background & Requirements for Bing Search Analytics

Bing Webmaster Tools must be integrated within the domain profile to view Bing Search Analytics data. For more information on integrating BWT, please visit the Bing Webmaster Tools Integration document. The latest data in Bing's Webmaster Tools can be up to a 7 days behind as data provided from Bing's API is only available on a weekly basis.


Bing Search Analytics Use Cases

  1. Understand query patterns and how they differ from Google, especially since Bing is used by multiple AI Search engines to retrieve results and summarize responses.
  2. Tracking and comparing performance on Bing with Google as it starts to grow in importance. 
  3. Initial research shows that on average query strings are longer on Bing than Google. Since Bing had integrated AI into its search results since 2023, its users have had longer to adjust their habits.

Bing Search Analytics Charts

Bing Search Analytics summaries            
Clicks: Displays the sum of clicks from Bing Webmaster Tools for the date range selected. 
Impressions: Displays the sum of impressions from Bing Webmaster Tools for the date range selected.
CTR: Displays the click-through rate from Bing Webmaster Tools for the date range selected.
Keyword Count: Displays the unique number of Keywords from Bing Webmaster Tools for the date range selected.
URL Count: Displays the unique number of URLs from Bing Webmaster Tools for the date range selected.

Bing Search Analytics views
Metrics: This displays data for Bing Webmaster Tools metrics: Clicks, Impressions, Keyword Count, URL Count, and CTR.
By Profile: This displays the selected Bing Webmaster Tools metric trended by profile.  The default view displays the top 5 profiles by clicks (BWT profiles can be added via the Bing Webmaster Tools Integration settings).

Search Analytics Filters

Profile: Select between "All" or individual BWT profiles by using the dropdown (BWT profiles can be added via the Bing Webmaster Tools Integration settings).
Keyword: Available on the Keyword view, this allows for filtering of the keyword(s) based on the criteria: is, isn't, contains, does not contain, starts with, ends with, or a Regex pattern.
ImpressionsFilter for the number of times pages from your site appeared in search results using equals, greater than, less than, or between. Also allows for selecting a date range of impressions. 
ClicksFilter for the number of times a user clicked your site's listing in search results for a particular query using equals, greater than, less than, or between. Also allows for selecting a date range of clicks.
CTR: Filter for the click-through rate percentage, which is based on impressions and clicks.
Avg PositionFilter for the average ranking position of the keyword or page as reported by Bing Webmaster Tools.
Ranking URLAvailable on the Page view, this allows for filtering of the page(s) based on the criteria: is, isn't, contains, does not contain, starts with, ends with, or a Regex pattern.


Bing Webmaster Tools API Limitations

  1. Bing Webmaster Tools has no way of retrieving data by day (or aggregating by month) as only weekly data is provided. 
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools data is available for keywords or pages, but not keyword and page.
  3. Bing Webmaster Tools data is not available for dimensions like Country location or Device.
