Overview
Actionable Insights bring to light actions that can be taken based on the various data points in the platform. The Actionable Insight settings allows for the customization of these via modification of their impact and effort, as well as the ability to enable/disable pertinent insights. We recommend reviewing each insight to determine which are most relevant and enable those which are most related to your initiatives.
These can be viewed via the Actionable Insights feature (pictured below) and are refreshed on a recurring basis.
Requirements
Certain insights depend upon other elements to be setup. This includes running Clarity Audits, having pages managed in Page Clarity, keywords managed in Rank Intelligence, keyword + URL associations managed in the Preferred Landing Page Report, as well integrations with Analytics and Search Console.
Actionable Insights settings
The Actionable Insights settings table allows several customization for Insights categories, subcategories, and individual Insights.
Domain Insight
To start using Actionable Insights, head to
Settings >
Actionable Insights and enter your domain. Entering a domain conducts an on-the-fly crawl of the
robots.txt file and other pages to check for various insights.
If the site is blocking crawlers, an error message would be displayed indicating that Domain level checks failed.
If this happens:
- Option A: Ensure the user agent is approved for crawling.
- Option B: Verify the correct domain is entered (e.g., use www2.hm.com if that's the actual site). For example, if the domain is provisioned as www.hm.com but in reality the site is www2.hm.com, the domain should be input as www2.hm.com to provide the most accurate insights.
Category, Subcategory and Individual Insights Customizations
On loading, the Actionable Insights settings tab shows the categories (Improve Usability, Improve Relevance, Improve Authority) and subcategories. Click the arrow before any category or subcategory to expand it.
Filter
Clicking the funnel icon in any row opens a dialog box to create a saved filter for that item. (Main categories and the Domain Insights subcategory and insights do not support filters).
You can filter results for an Insight by including or excluding Content Types and/or URL patterns. Once saved, a filter affects all results for that insight for all users of an account, until it is edited or removed.
Insights with saved filters show a funnel icon filled in with orange. Click any of these to edit the existing filter.
Impact Labels
Impact is a level setting used to indicate the estimated level of effect taking action on an Insight might have on the site's SEO. Each Insight has a default Impact level set by seoClarity based on our own experience as well as that of our clients. However, you can change the settings for the Impact for any Insight here in settings by clicking the dropdown menu in the Impact column.
Label choices are Very Low, Low, Medium, High, and Very High.
These labels do not affect the Insight itself in any way; they simply act as indicators to aid in prioritizing issues.
Effort Labels
Effort is a level setting used to indicate the estimated level of effort needed to act on a particular Insight. Each Insight has a default Effort level set by seoClarity based on our own experience as well as that of our clients. However, you can change the settings for the Effort for any Insight here in settings by clicking the dropdown menu in the Effort column.
Label choices are Very Low, Low, Medium, High, and Very High.
These labels do not affect the Insight itself in any way; they simply act as indicators to aid in prioritizing issues.
Enable
If a row has a checkmark in the Enable column, the Insight or Category or Subcategory is enabled, and will show in the Actionable Insights results (if there are any current Insights applicable).
To disable a row item, uncheck its box in the Enable column. Insights for that item will no longer show in Actionable Insights reports. To disable a subcategory or category, all child elements in that category or subcategory must be disabled first. A greyed-out checkbox for a category or subcategory indicates there are some disabled elements underneath it.
