What is the best way to identify spammy backlinks?

The main place to check for spammy backlinks that may be linking to your site is in the Research Grid: Backlinks section of the platform.

1.  Navigate to Research Grid: Backlinks.  Click on the "Backlinks Domains" tab.  Look at sites that are sending a ton of links to you and make sure they are valid sites that will help you, not harm you.  You can also analyze the anchor text being used by these partners and try to locate potential spammy anchor text.

2.  Check the Citation and Trust Flow metrics given to your backlinks.  These are on a scale from 1-100, 100 being the best.  These are determined by Majestic.

  • Citation Flow is a number of predicting how influential a URL might be based on how many sites link to it.
  • Trust Flow is a number predicting how trustworthy a page is based on how trustworthy sites tend to link to trustworthy neighbors.

3.  You can also build a Links Dashboard that contains the "Backlinks Research Trend" widget.  This will allow you to monitor the latest incoming links and also see which good links you may have lost as well.
