Ranking settings

Overview

The Ranking configuration setting allows for the customization of how we display ranking data, including how to calculate weekly and monthly average rankings.

Ranking Configuration

What counts as ranking?
Broad match of domain (Default Option): Selecting this option will ensure that rankings are counted based on any URL ranking from your root domain. For example, if your domain is provisioned as www.xyz.com, enabling this option would count rankings, even if the URL ranking is from blog.xyz.com, xyz.com etc

Exact match of domain: For example, if your domain is provisioned as www.xyz.com, enabling this option would ONLY count rankings if the URL ranking is from www.xyz.com. It will not count rankings if the URL is from another sub-domain such as blog.xyz.com, xyz.com etc

Count only associated page rankings: Enabling this option will restrict the rank reporting to only those URLs that are associated with each keyword. For example, if the keyword ABC is associated with URL xyz.com/abc.html, the system will check for that specific URL ranking in the SERPs. If the specific URL is not found, the rank will be reported as 100+, even if another URL from the domain is found ranking.

Sub-folder Tracking?

Select this option to track rankings for a specific subfolder or subfolder fragment.

Specific Sub-folder: This option will check for any URLs that reside under the folder path specified. For example, if you enter /abc as the Sub-folder path to match, it will match all urls such as /abc/xyz.html, /abc/123 and so on
Sub-folder fragment: This option allows for checking a part of the sub-folder. Entering /abc/ will check for any urls that reside under any URL where /abc is part of the path. You can additionally choose if there is a single or multiple level wildcard for matching. For example, if the fragment is set to /abc for single folder wildcard, it would match www.hm.com/subfolder1/abc/xyz.html and www.hm.com/subfolderX/abc/123 but NOT www.hm.com/subfolder1/subfolder2/abc/xyz When the setting is to treat multiple level subfolders as the wildcard, the setting will match www.hm.com/subfolder1/abc/xyz.html and also www.hm.com/subfolder1/subfolder2/abc/123.html and so on.

How should the rank positions be calculated?

Ranking data is retrieved from Google in 2 primary types: True Rank which includes all organic results (images, videos, etc) & Web Rank which only counts web results.

Count Web Results only in rankings (Web Rank): Enabling this option will default the ranking calculation to IGNORE universal rank types such as Images, video, News, Local Map Results etc in the calculation of rank positions. Only webpages that show up in the search result page will be counted as a rank position. Please note: Answer Boxes are always counted, regardless of this setting.

Count Web + Universal results in rankings (True Rank): Enabling this option will default the ranking calculation to INCLUDE universal rank types such as Images, video, News, Local Map Results etc in the calculation of rank positions. Only organic results that show up in the search result page will be counted as a rank position. If a keyword has Images showing and then a URL from your domain, it would count you ranking as 2.

How to calculate Weekly/Monthly Rank? (Available only for domains where each Search Engine is under 100k tracked keywords)

Uses Sunday's rankings as the representative rankings for the week and the last Sunday of each month as the month's ranking.

Calculates the highest rank position for each keyword in the week or month.

Calculates the simple average rank of the week or month.

Determines the most frequently occurring rank position during the week or month and uses that as the rank position.
