How are keywords added to the Research Grid database?

Requests for keyword additions to the Research Grid follow our feature request process and include a rigid editorial review process prior to any keywords being added. Submitted requests are added to a queue and prioritized only after vetting and verification by the product team. To streamline any addition requests, include a domain or list of domains to be used for keyword expansion and target countries. As rankings for Research Grid data are retrieved monthly, the earliest keyword additions can be made are 2-3 months from the time of the request to allow time for rankings to be retrieved and processed. Not all requests can be fulfilled, but we try to include as many as possible.

Separate from addition requests, we also build the Research Grid on a recurring basis. Selected keywords that are added to the Research Grid are based on a combination of freshness, search volume, and industry coverage:
  1. Freshness: Based on our crawl of the web, we leverage machine learning to understand new and trending terms to add to the dataset, this ensures that newer trending keywords (such as MIB International) make it into the data set.
  2. Search Volume: The Search Demand for keywords is another determinant. Typically we will not add as many 0 to 10 Search Volume keywords as we would anything with 100 or more.
  3. Industry coverage: We consistently look for keywords that reflect our client base. E-Commerce, Travel, Health, Services, Finance are some of the top 16 categories we focus on growing. There are a lot of words out there that are searched and we are trying to be most comprehensive for our client industries.
